Nicky wakes up...and he's not happy!

I distinctly remember it. The day was Monday, 6th March 2006. Instead of having his usual morning sleep shortly after being fed, Nicky didn't sleep a wink that morning. I thought - what's going on??? As the days (which turned into weeks, about six in all) went by it was very difficult to get Nicky to go to sleep. He would be dead tired and in a very cranky mood, but yet he still wouldn't go to sleep. Often it would take hours of rocking him, carrying him around etc to get him to fall asleep. Sometimes he would be up to 2 in the morning!

Prior to this, as I said in my previous posts, he fell asleep anywhere, at anytime without any difficulty. As babies tend to do, he had completely lulled me into a false sense of security, the cheeky little sod! I thought I had one of those easy, placid "Angel Babies" on my hands (which I must admit mystified me, as you couldn't describe Kristian and I as placid by any stretch of the imagination).

Besides having trouble getting Nicky to sleep, in his waking hours he was generally not a very happy little camper! The term which people use for this type of baby behaviour is "unsettled". In my experience, "unsettled" doesn't really fully capture this kind of behaviour in babies. It's too mild sounding. I reckon better subsitutes would be "in a real mood/strop/huff", "fractious to the max" or just plain "really p#@*@%# off"!
